As a group, this was the band's first real recording effort, and the band was pretty satisfied with the end result.


Army Street Studios
S.F., CA - Winter 1980

 Session Notes:
Jim Keylor was the band's sound man and the owner of Army Street Studios. At some point it was decided to take a crack at re-recording "Baby Try Me", although the end result was not as good as the Tres Virgos recording. If you listen close enough, that's Timmy playing the vibraphone.


Gading Road Studios

 Session Notes:
Rick Clare grew up on Gading Road in Hayward, CA. He purchased a Tascam 40-4 multi-track recorder in 1979, right around the time Times 5 was forming. Rick soon began recording solo material, as well as recording local bands and musicians. Unfortunately none of the Times 5 recordings included Timmy Spence, and in fact, only two songs included real drums (Teenage Girls and Shutup). Most of the drum parts were tracked from a vinyl record called "Drum Drops".

Notes:
In July, 2002, David Wallace gave Rick Clare a 7" Maxell tape and indicated he wasn't sure what was on the tape. Rick was delighted when it turned out to be an entire show at the Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco, and even included the Outsiders classic, "Time Won't Let Me". There is one problem with this recording, the mix is terrible.

By chance, Rick Clare found this recording via the internet. Rick stumbed on a website hosted by Terry Hammer, Hammer Productions, who was a local sound engineer for many S.F. Bay Area clubs throughout the 1980s. Posted on Terry's website are numerous recordings of New Wave bands. After Rick contacted Terry about this show, Terry immediately sent him the recording.

 Session Notes:
Reggie's rehearsal studio was a dump on Folsom Street in San Francisco, and was right down the street from the infamous SOMA restaurant, Hamburger Mary's. Prior to each rehersal, the band would walk down to Hamburger Mary's and get coffee, which was usually followed by Budweiser talls (Wallace's favorite).

 Notes:
The band eventually graduated to a nicer rehearsal facility, S.I.R. Studios. This is a recording of one of Timmy's instrumentals, which unfortunately the band never played live.
